Renewable Energy

Dairyland’s renewable energy resources include hydro, wind, biomass, landfill gas, manure digesters and solar. Member cooperatives promote renewable energy to their consumers through Evergreen, a voluntary program in which people can choose to support Dairyland’s renewable energy resources.

In 2009, the Board of Directors of Dairyland and its senior management elected to set a goal for 25 percent of its generation to come from renewable resources by 2025. Through diligent planning and a commitment to “do the right thing,” Dairyland is in step to meet both new renewable energy standards and achieve that goal.

Consumer-owned renewable energy

Member cooperatives have experienced a considerable increase in consumer-owned distributed renewable generation installations, thanks to innovative rate tariffs for small renewable installations. Dairyland works with its member cooperatives on policies that help enable the development of consumer-owned renewable energy projects including small-scale wind turbines and photovoltaic arrays (solar).

Dairyland is also a leader in the National Renewables Cooperative Organization, a national cooperative to develop renewable resources for all electric cooperatives across the nation.
